Meet Dana!

Get to know one of our instructors, Dana!

Hailing from Martha’s Vineyard, MA, Dana is a certified Pilates Instructor in Los Angeles. After working as a personal trainer for many years, Dana suffered a hamstring injury. Her search for the safest workout to build strength, flexibility and mobility led her straight to Pilates and she has never looked back. Dana loves sharing the benefits of a dedicated Pilates practice with her clients, and even her 8 year old daughter :-)

Q: What is your favorite Pilates move?

The pelvic curl on the wheel or reformer. I love hamstring work! This exercise requires so much control through the hamstrings, flutes, and core. I love it!

Q: Why is health and fitness important to you?

Wellness has always been a big part of my life, but I have experienced some health issues in the past two years. Finding my way back to good health and less pain has been a huge journey for me. I could never take my wellness for granted ever again!

Q: What is your health and fitness philosophy?

My philosophy is find the healthy diet and exercise program that works for you! And by that I mean the one that you can stay consistent with. If you do the things you enjoy you'll stick with it a lot easier!

Q: What's your favorite meal?

It's always changing, but right now it’s Potato Pasta: I spiralize some red potatoes, toss them with avocado oil and garlic, bake them in the oven, and 15 minutes later it’s a bowl of delicious garlic and oil pasta!

Q: What's your perfect day?

I put in a tough workout and then bring a delicious meal to the beach with my daughter.

Q: What are two songs in your rotation right now?

1. Rihanna “Needed Me”
2. Anderson Pak “6 Summers”

Q: What's one book everyone should have to read:

Medical Medium. It's changed my life.

Q: Who's your hero?

The brave veterans of VETPAW, who are working hard to protect wildlife in South Africa from poachers every day.

Q: Who are three people you'd like to work out with?

Definitely Dwayne Johnson, because no one trains harder than him he’s such an inspiration! Joseph Pilates, because I would love to see the master in action! And my fellow Pilates Wheel Instructor Kimmy, because she’s my fave workout partner!

Q: If this wasn't your occupation, what would it be?

I would work for some type of animal rescue or wildlife refuge. I love all animals and believe they need to be protected and respected.

Q: What is your scariest moment?

My daughter snuck up behind me and scared the heck out of me the other day!

Q: What is your happiest moment?

The birth of my daughter.

Q: What is the best thing about what you do?

Seeing people’s lives transform as they grow strong, healthy, and free from pain.

Q: If you could give $100,000 to a charity, which one would it be?

It would be to VETPAW: Veterans Empowered To Protect African Wildlife. This organization employs our American veterans and protects African wildlife from poachers. If we don’t act now rhinos and elephants will be extinct in a matter of years.
